Unlike the neutral palette typically associated with the traditional ballet costume, this touching artwork has incorporated vibrant colours for the delicate tulle. Showing the female figure in a natural state, it is an intimate glimpse into the world of a dancer.

Influenced by the initial Realism movement in 19th century France, Nigel focuses on people in everyday settings, liberated from artificially composed scenes. He considers his work a form of “social realism”, and is inspired by artists like Walter Sickert, Édouard Vuillard and James Whistler.  

It is this naturalism and dramatic colouration that creates a beautifully real grasp of his subject and the art of dance.
