Depicting one of his most iconic images, this stainless steel sculpture is the latest incredible addition to Billy’s three dimensional body of work. This Charming and brilliant artwork from resonates deeply with the artist. Inspired by his days as a gigging folk singer, and the whole folk music scene of the 1960’s ‘Two For The Road’ shows our two heroes in full swing. Is the banjo player a self portrait? ‘It might be!’ replies Billy, ‘…and it reminds me of being on the road and travelling and how much that has been part of my life’.

‘I love people in music shops, and how they just love looking at banjos and fiddles and autoharps and all things musical that they find it interesting. And he’s one of them. The big one is he’s in charge”.

Formed first in clay to capture the detailed lines of his signature style, the sculpture is then cast in stainless steel, subtly referencing Billy’s time as a welder in the shipyards of Glasgow. Contrast is created between detailed and patterned areas through intricate texture and polishing to beautiful and dramatic effect, a timeless artwork from one of our time’s most original thinkers.
